Tips for Maintenance and Quality Identification of Cam Locks

Maintenance of cam locks
First of all, experienced carpenters and locksmiths are supposed to be hired to install Cam locks. At the same time, according to the product manual, drilling holes as preparation for installing the latch plate, the strike plate, etc.

It is necessary to ensure accuracy of all the positions of holes, and the whole installation process needs to be taken under instructions of the product manual. After installation, if the cam lock can not be opened and closed smoothly or the lock is even stuck, any of the locksmith, the local retailer, the lock manufacturer's technical department and after-sales department is supposed to be consulted to offer professional advice and solutions to solve the problem.

It is not recommended to add oil to the lock cylinder. If the key can not open the lock smoothly, a little powder of pencil lead can be added to the keyhole. In daily life, lubricant are often added to the keyhole when the lock is jammed. However, by doing so, the lock can be opened smoothly in a short time, whereas the lock will be jammed again due to a thick layer of dust accumulating caused by lubricant. As a result, the lock will be broken easily.

In daily life, people are supposed put the key into the lock body when holding the lock handle and then release the handle after closing the door. Slamming the door should be avoided because it will reduce the lock's service life.

After the lock is used for a period of time, there are always some situations where the lock can not be opened smoothly. In such cases, instead of plain lubricant or engine oil, lubricant special for locks can be added to the lock cylinder and then the problem will be solved after opening and closing the lock for several times.

How to identify the quality of locks
Referring to the national executive standard of locks in China, A class lock has the lowest security and B class lock has higher security. Furthermore, with security level B and above, a lock can be called the thief resistant machine lock and be used for the exterior door to enhance door security.

Surface treatments of locks
Surface treatments of locks are roughly divided into three categories: electroplating, spraying and coloring. The dense coating of the lock surface is anti-corrosive and antirust and makes the lock more durable and attractive.

Moreover, the quality of the lock can be measured by the quality of the coating. The high-quality lock usually goes through electroplating process and has the smooth and bright surface. Meanwhile, its coating has great uniformity of thickness without blisters, signs of rust or oxidation.

The surface treatment of the lock is not only for the great appearance but also is related to the quality and the operation life of the lock. Therefore, high-quality locks are always with qualified coatings.

The quality of the lock can almost be measured by the quality and performance of the lock cylinder. After installing the lock, the lock cylinder becomes the only part of the lock which can be seen. The cylinder can be defined as the first fence guard against incursion. Thus, measuring the quality and property of the lock cylinder should be the first indicator for people selecting locks.
